Sweet Cherry Publishing is an independent children’s book publisher based in Leicester. We are a small team with a big mission! We believe that all children should have access to great stories and endeavour to break down the barriers which often get in the way of reading. Bangzo Books Wholesale is a trade bookselling business, specialising in children’s box sets and collections. We stock books for all kinds of readers, from early readers to middle-grade to young adults and adults, too. From classic authors like Enid Blyton to contemporary favourites like David Walliams, Bangzo Books Wholesale supplies the perfect product range for distributors, bookshops, schools and libraries in the UK and around the world.

The Role:

This role is a flexible role encompassing consumer, trade, domestic and international sales and marketing.  We’re looking for a team player willing to assist and pitch in where needed in our growing businesses. This is an ideal position for someone who’s highly organised and a self-starter who does not require a great deal of hand-holding.  Training will be given in terms of systems and processes but you will be expected to already be competent with all areas of the job description. 

We are looking for someone who can help drive the business and its sister companies forward by supporting and assisting the sales and marketing team with a wide range of administrative tasks. Previous administration experience is an advantage but not necessary.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Sweet Cherry Publishing – Marketing Team Operations

  • Scheduling posts across all social media platforms and engaging with followers
  • Identifying trends to develop creative marketing & publicity strategies and their execution
  • Sending samples and reader copies to bloggers, the press and other key marketing contacts
  • Researching and compiling bloggers and influencers to expand our marketing database
  • Other ad-hoc marketing and publicity administrative tasks (as and when needed)

Sweet Cherry Publishing – Sales/Rights Team Operations

  • Supporting rights team with fair follow ups by sending files to clients 
  • Making file requests and sending files to external clients
  • Processing daily UK and international sales orders
  • Drawing up rights contracts as and when needed (ad hoc.)
  • Sending out submission samples to clients and agents
  • Listing products on digital platforms such as Amazon
  • Other ad-hoc daily sales and foreign rights administrative tasks (as and when needed)

Bangzo Books Wholesale – Sales Team Operations

  • Producing invoices and processing wholesale and school orders
  • Handling wholesale enquiries and negotiating prices
  • Liaising between external sales reps and our internal sales team
  • Overseeing the logistics and preparation for trade exhibitions
  • Monitoring popular and slow-selling products to help plan e-newsletter promotions
  • Other ad-hoc daily sales and marketing administrative tasks (as and when needed)
  • Experience in market research and understanding digital analytics
  • Experience with Google Advertising and Amazon PPC advertising
  • Managing marketing budgets for the entire portfolio and digital resources (social channels/ PPC)
  • Managing and updating the Sweet Cherry website (hosted on WordPress)
  • Managing an online community of online influencers (e.g. book and parent influencers)
  • Deliver confident internal and external digital presentations of marketing plans 
  • Organising and planning author events, festivals and conferences
  • Working closely with the sales team to maximise exposure of Sweet Cherry Publishing titles
  • Working collaboratively with editorial, sales and digital teams
  • Liaising with partners and external companies
  • Working closely with style guides and delivering design briefs
  • To act, where appropriate, as an ambassador for the company, presenting new titles and marketing plans at sales, retail and library conferences, for example

Compulsory skills and knowledge:

  • Ability to plan, organise, prioritise and work on multiple tasks simultaneously whilst maintaining sharp attention to detail, often to a deadline and in a target-driven environment
  • Passionate about sales and delivering great customer service
  • Creatively and confidently delivering marketing and publicity campaigns
  • Knowledge of marketing theory and strategy
  • Being a proactive team player whilst delivering work independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets and Docs
  • Competency with social media from desktop and mobile
  • Quick at learning new order processing and inventory software
  • Confident sales and negotiation skills
  • Strong time management and communication skills
  • Willingness to assist others around you whilst continuously developing as an individual
  • A good knowledge of children’s books and an enjoyment for reading

Working Hours: 20 hours a week: Monday – Friday 9.30am-1.30pm

Overtime: Paid overtime, expected around busy seasons (subject to prior approval)

Holiday Entitlement: 10 days plus 8 bank holidays

Hourly Pay: Dependent on experience
