We are thrilled that our hard work and creative ideas led to significant business growth last year. 2018 was a fantastic year for US – our annual turnover almost tripled as we developed our presence nationally and internationally. This financial growth has allowed us to expand, and we have welcomed ten new faces to the team. We published 32 titles in 2018 and covered a breadth of children’s literature on our mission to engage young people in reading. From classics like Anne of Green Gables, to licenses like Geronimo Stilton and fresh, exciting stories like Hopeless Heroes, we are proud of the titles we’ve published.
Part of our success can be seen through the prize nominations we have had. Angie Lake’s Danny Dingle’s Fantastic Finds: The Mighty Iron Foot was nominated for The People’s Book Prize and Stella Tarakson’s Hopeless Heroes was nominated for The Fantastic Book Awards. Popular with readers, these books and others on our list now appear more frequently in trade retailers such as Waterstones, Foyles and Blackwell’s, and we’ve established a strong network of key independent booksellers. Internationally, we’ve continued to sell rights in an ever-growing number of territories, and we’ve worked with more, bigger distributors than ever before.
We don’t plan to slow down. We recently partnered with Baker & Taylor for US distribution and will be launching our list in America later this year. We also have some fabulous new titles on the horizon. YA readers can look forward to the off-beat summer contemporary title Lily’s Just Fine, and our very youngest readers are also in for a treat with the wonderful Rhymey Time Island board book series, which will bring all their favourite nursery rhymes to life through finger paths. This year also marks the start of our collaboration with Numberblocks and Aardman Animations – so watch this space!
This year promises to be just as exciting as the one we’ve left behind. We look forward to working with our existing partners and establishing new relationships as we continue to bring creativity and enthusiasm to children’s publishing!
