A centenary celebration:
Sweet Cherry acquires Dick King-Smith


Sweet Cherry has acquired the rights to publish ten of Dick King-Smith’s renowned titles, celebrating 100 years since the birth of the heritage author behind Babe: The Sheep-Pig.

The Leicester-based independent children’s publisher secured worldwide English language rights from Dick King-Smith’s estate, represented by Millie Hoskins and Caradoc King at United Agents.

Dick King-Smith’s family “are delighted that Sweet Cherry are publishing new editions from his extensive backlist [and] are looking forward to celebrating Dick’s centenary in 2022”.

The deal was closed by Senior Editor Kellie Jones and the titles secured are Daggie Dogfoot/Pigs Might Fly, Dragon Boy, Dodos Are Forever, Julius Caesar’s Goat, Warlock Watson, What Sadie Saw, Sir Tumbleweed, Paddy’s Pot of Gold, Find the White Horse and Friends and Brothers.

Lara Clift, Publisher at Sweet Cherry, said: “We are ecstatic to be adding such a beloved author to our list. Many of us at Sweet Cherry have been fans of Dick King-Smith’s books from a young age and we hope to bring the same joy of reading his books to generations to come.”

Sweet Cherry will publish beautiful paperback editions in Autumn 2021 along with an anniversary-special box set.
