[PRESS RELEASE – 5 AUGUST 2021]

Sweet Cherry acquires Isabelle Marinov’s neurodiverse debut middle grade novel

Sweet Cherry has recently acquired worldwide English-language print and e-book rights to publish Isabelle Marinov’s trade children’s novel, Boy Underground.

The deal was closed by Sweet Cherry’s Senior Editor Kellie Jones, and Silvia Molteni, Head of Children’s Books at Peters Fraser & Dunlop (PFD) Literary Agents.

The story, set in Paris, follows an autistic 12-year-old protagonist, Hugo, who finds comfort in maps, especially that of the Paris underground with its maze of tunnels, quarries, bunkers and catacombs.

Kellie Jones said: ‘I’m so excited about Boy Underground! It has a breakneck adventure, an interrupted heist, friendships restored and themes of acceptance through the eyes of Hugo: a boy on the spectrum who thinks he has to go all the way underground to find a place where he belongs.’

Luxembourgish author Isabelle Marinov, previously published by Bonnier-imprint Templar and NYC-indie Enchanted Lion Books, was inspired by her personal experience of raising a son with autism.

Isabelle Marinov said: ‘I am thrilled to be working with Sweet Cherry Publishing, a publisher that champions diversity, for my debut middle grade novel. I am grateful to their amazing team for bringing my story featuring a neurodiverse protagonist to life.’

Boy Underground will be published in paperback for readers aged 9-14 in October 2022.
