Sweet Cherry signs NYC actress Lauren Hoffmeier

Sweet Cherry has acquired the rights to Mula and the Fly, a debut picture book series from New York actress and qualified yoga teacher, Lauren Hoffmeier.

The Leicester-based independent children’s publisher secured worldwide rights in all languages directly from Hoffmeier, with the exception of theatre rights which, with a background in theatre and playwriting, she retained.

Lara Clift, Publisher at Sweet Cherry, said: “We are delighted to work with Lauren and bring her passion for yoga to publishing. Mindfulness is so important for all ages and these picture books will be an ideal way to integrate meditative techniques into parenting.”

Mula and the Fly introduces 3-5-year-olds to the world of yoga through the quirky tales of Mula the tiger and her best friend, the Fly. The rest of the series follows an array of whimsical jungle characters, each named after the chakra they are based on.

With parents turning to meditation and a ‘mindful’ approach to their child’s development, Hoffmeier aims to “empower readers big and small to breathe deeply and listen to their heart”. 

The books are beautifully illustrated by Polish illustrator Ela Smietanka, represented by design agency Advocate Art. The cover will be revealed on Sweet Cherry’s social media in the forthcoming weeks.

Mula and the Fly debuts in June 2021, with new books in the series to be released semi-annually.
