Sweet Cherry Casts its Best Spell Yet With Latest Maggie Sparks Instalment

Sweet Cherry Publishing, Leicester’s multi-award-winning children’s book publisher, has officially released the fourth instalment in its much-loved Maggie Sparks series, penned by renowned Staffordshire-based author Steve Smallman.

The magical series centres around a young and mischievous witch named Maggie, who regularly lands herself, her best friend Arthur and her pet chameleon, Bat, in some sticky situations. Previous instalments have tackled important themes such as right and wrong, adapting to change, learning new skills and, of course, friendship!

The latest book, titled Maggie Sparks and the School of Slime, whisks readers away on an entirely new adventure – you should expect lots of magic, even more mischief, and some unexpected slime monsters.

Steve Smallman, the award-winning author of Poo in the Zoo and doting grandfather, is incredibly excited for young readers to follow along on Maggie, Arthur and Bat’s slime-tastic new journey. He said: “Brilliantly illustrated by Esther Hernando, this fourth adventure is full of fun, fizzing with magic and covered in slime!  Maggie learns that changing schools can be very difficult (especially if it’s Peregrine Poo Face Primary and your teacher is a vampire), but with her best friend Arthur beside her and just a little bit of magic things might just turn out okay!”

Sweet Cherry is equally excited by the release, with the team being especially thrilled to see this extraordinary world expanding. The Maggie Sparks brand is one of immense opportunity, presenting fantastic stories, characters and visuals.

The publisher, Sanjee de Silva, said: “Ever since we began working with Steve on the first Maggie book, Maggie Sparks and the Monster Baby, we have had an absolute blast. It’s been a privilege to see this fantastical world go from strength to strength, and it’s all a credit to Steve and our very own designers and editors. In essence, these are books about magic and mischief, but they’re so much more than that… they teach readers about the scales of morality and the importance of being a good friend. This latest title excels in these teachings.”

A fifth title, set for release later in the year, will take the brand even further and will allow readers to buy a beautifully designed box set featuring every one of these magical tales. For now, though, Maggie Sparks and the School of Slime is ready and waiting to take children on their wackiest adventure yet!
